Infection or Inflammation?

I'm taking a leave of absence for a while. I'm not sure how long. Yesterday (Sunday) Jeremy suddenly couldn't walk on his right foot, claiming that his knee hurt. We figured he smashed his knee during snack time or jumped off something. We discovered that it hurt worse than just a smash or a bruise. Last night he woke screaming and crying in pain repeatedly. We brought him into our bed so we could comfort him as much as we could. Then this morning Nathan took Jeremy to the doctor's office who then immediately redirected him to the E.R. The doctor thought Jeremy fractured his leg, which would have been nice because then he would have been back home the same day. Instead, when he got to the E.R. they did two sets of X-rays, an ultrasound, and also took fluid from his hip. They think the problem is with his hip, that there is fluid there and is either an infection or an inflammation. If it is the infection then he will have surgery Tuesday morning. If it is the inflammation, then they think it could be a thing where it could come and go. I don't really see one of those being better than the other.

So I will be spending time with Jeremy this week. Also, my parents are in town for Thanksgiving, so they came at just the right time to help. I hope everyone has a great holiday!

Oh man, I'm so sorry. I guess it's a good thing you weren't planning on traveling this week at all. We leave town Wednesday morning, but if you need anything tomorrow, please call me. Seriously...I spent six hours with a friend at the doctor two days before we moved to Cleveland. Let me know if you need anything.

Kellie,
This exact thing happened to my little boy. In our case they did a minor surgery to drain the hip to relieve the pain. It turned out to be the inflammation and not the infection. Every time he gets sick or something it seems to settle in that hip though and he complains about his leg hurting badly. The night we rushed him to the ER he screamed like he was on fire and that was the worst!! I am so sorry your little boy is going through this. I had no idea this was something that could even happen. Boy, as a parent you think you have it figured out and then there's something you never even dreamed possible. I wish you all the best and I hope and pray for the best for your little boy and your family. Happy Thanksgiving!!

Sorry to hear that things didn't improve. We are keeping Jeremy in our thoughts and prayers. It is really ironic that song that Nathan made up and Jeremy was singing about the disease in his knees. Crazy that happened the same day.
