Training Chickens Vs. Training Children

Did you know that I can train baby chickens? I can. I have twice taught baby chicks to turn clockwise and counterclockwise circles and peck at red and white dots in complex orders--all for food.

(I was also supposed to train a rat, but I didn't like the rat. Once it bit me in front of a guy I had a crush on ((way before I met Nathan)) and I made sure that rat died.)

I even showed my amazingness to Elder Bednar when he was president at Ricks. (Is it obvious I can't say BYU-I?) I showed Elder Bednar and a bunch of rich people who were thinking about investing in the college.

They thought I was cool.

Yes, I can train chickens.

But I cannot for the life of me train my children--or myself for that matter.

Does this make the chickens smarter?

Hmm I think it makes the chickens easier if nothing else. Why on earth did you get into training chickens?!

I took a general psych class at Ricks and my teacher needed more students to help with a project she was over, which involved training chickens and studying their behavior, how long it took them to get the set patterns (peck red dot twice, white dot once, turn in a circle to the left and then get food, for example). I did it again when we wanted to impress the rich men and get them to donate to the psych department. it was actually a lot of fun.

It's okay...Elder Bednar was never president of BYU-Idaho. He was president of Ricks. :)

i believe training chickens will benefit the world in a way we could never know.

and i also believe that, like the rat, your kids just might bight back.

stick with the chickens.

Why can't kids be as easy as chickens. Could you imagine toilet training? That would be awesome!

Good job getting the chicks to do that. And I think it's harder with kids because they are smarter and know how to get away with things :). Your kids are SOOOOO CUTE. I just love them.

Oh Kellie! I am so happy you found me! I was just thinking about you and Carolyn yesterday...how ironic! It's so fun to see you with your cute family. We have an Emma too! I take it that you are in Ohio. How do you like it? I am excited to keep up with you on your blog!

By the way, do you know where Carolyn is?

Maybe you should have just become the Chicken Woman. Think of how much money you could have made off your Tricky-Chicky Farm! People would have come from all over the country to see you and your rotating chickens, and life would have been bliss.

But then, children do kind of break up the monotony - plus, you would have been WAY less humble if all your trainees actually listened to you all the time, so maybe it's six-of-one, half-a-dozen of the other...

I would rather train a child than a rat! I don't think I could do the chicken thing either...I am allergic to the feathers :)
I'm glad I had kids not rats or chickens....LOL!
